Santa Fe, New Mexico, January 17, 2011, Arch Thiessen, Owner of Sunshine Studio, has been recognized by Elite American Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in tribal art.
Dedicated to promoting Native American art, Mr. Thiessen established Sunshine Studio in 1975, a small home-based retail business that provides hand-crafted tribal art, paintings and jewelry influenced by the Native American tribe, Zunis. The company’s vision is based around Mr. Thiessen’s late wife, whose creativity continues to serve as the inspiration behind all of the pieces of artwork sold at the studio. His steady hard work, combined with his perseverance in the face of adversity, has led Mr. Thiessen to succeed as an entrepreneur and expand his business. In 1995, he added an online store to facilitate a wider customer base outside of the Santa Fe area.
Mr. Thiessen holds a Ph.D. in nuclear physics, which he earned in 1967. Previously, he attended the California Institute of Technology, where he retained both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in physics. Following his education, he completed a fellowship with the American Physical Society. He went on to work for Los Alamos National Laboratory for 36 years, where his demonstrated competencies earned him recognition by the Building Spectrometers LAMPF. Upon his retirement, Mr. Thiessen devoted all of his efforts to Sunshine Studio.
In addition to his role as business owner, he is the president of an organization called the Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association. For 22 years, it has provided education for the public, set standards for the trade, and offered buyers a guarantee that objects for sale are represented regarding age, authenticity and extent of restoration. Mr. Thiessen’s instrumental involvement with preserving and promoting ATADA has showcased his true passion for tribal art outside of his business. In the future, he intends to expand Sunshine Studio even further by infusing the knowledge he has gathered and implementing it into new areas of the company.
