Ms. Stapp has owned and operated Howard House for the past 33 years. She attributes her enduring success to her proactive and maverick nature, and expertise in home facilitation. Primarily, she provides the residents an environment to learn basic independent life skills, such as laundry, dishwashing and grocery shopping. Additionally, she handles the upkeep of the house, including purchasing groceries, cooking and cleaning, and enforces her rules to maintain order and control. She became involved in her profession through her exposure to people with mental illness since childhood and through her experiences in caring for her elderly parents.
